It can be quite frustrating to encounter a clogged toilet because not only is this inconvenient, but a clogged toilet may prove to be costly as well. Fortunately, there are already various effective ways on how you will be able to address the clog. This article lists down some of the most viable ones that you can try at home in case you experience this inopportune situation.

    Use a plunger

One of the most common fixes of a clogged toilet is to use a plunger. According to a seasoned blocked drain Sydney plumber, you have to be keen on the type of plunger that you should use. For instance, flat plungers are only usually effective for flat surfaces such as your shower drain or kitchen sink. For a clogged toilet, you have to have a plunger with a flange.

    Try baking soda and vinegar

If you are not comfortable using a plunger, then you can try a homemade solution instead to unclog your toilet. In this case, what you can do is add a cup of baking soda to your clogged toilet. Wait for a couple of minutes before you slowly pour a couple of cups of vinegar into it. Leave the mixture to work its wonders for several minutes before you flush your toilet to see whether the clog has cleared.

    Utilise a plumbing snake

Apart from a plunger, you can also try to use a plumbing snake in an attempt to de-clog your toilet. To properly do so, you have to place the head of the augur in the bowl while slowly turning the handle clockwise. In case you already feel resistance, try to wind the snake back before flushing your toilet to check if the clog has been cleared.

De-clog with dish soap and hot water

Finally, there is also the option for you to de-clog your toilet with dish soap and water. While you are boiling about a gallon of water, squirt some dish soap in your toilet. From there, pour the very hot water through and wait for several minutes before you try to flush the toilet.

    The Bottomline

To address a clogged toilet, you can either use a plunger or try a homemade solution using baking soda and vinegar. On the other hand, you can also consider using a plumbing snake or going for dish soap and hot water. Just remember that the key to addressing clogged toilet problems is preventing them from occurring in the first place.
